In this article I am going to show you my structure for writing father of the groom speeches. Think of it as kind of a blueprint which I hope will help you write your father of the groom speech. If you follow my plan below you should have no problems.
I know what you are thinking right now and I bet you are worried about writing a speech for your son’s wedding. It really is not an easy thing to do but I hope that by reading this you will be in a better position than you was before.
OK Here’s The Plan:
•You want to start with a strong welcome to everyone that has come to the wedding. You can choose to thank them after welcome or later on at the end of the speech.
•Now you want to introduce yourself and let everyone know what your relation is to the groom since not everyone perhaps knows. Brides Family Normally.
•Now I find it is good to make a few nice comments about the bride and tell everyone how good she has been for your son. How happy she makes him etc.
•This is the part where you share a few short stories or experiences with everyone. Its best to have these stories or experiences show your bond with your son. Funny stories here are very good but make sure not to embarrass anyone.
•Now you want to make a few nice comments about the bride and her family. Thank her for making your son happy and thank her family for coming and making it a really special day.
•Now you want to pass on your blessing to their marriage. Wish them a happy future together and let them know that you are more than happy for them.
•You can now provide some marriage advice to your son if you are comfortable with giving him this kind of advice.
•Finish the speech by again thanking everyone for coming and encourage everyone to carry on having drinks and enjoying themselves.
If you follow this brief structure for your father of the groom speech you should be able to at least get started on your speech. If you are trying to follow it step by step and find it still very hard to get started then try taking it apart.
Start from the end and work your way backwards, or pick out parts which you know you can write and get them done. Once you get started you will find it much easier to keep going and finish the speech. I hope that you now have some idea how to write father of the groom speeches. I know a lot of dads do not even know where to start.
